On Saturday, I joined the ms Zuiderdam in Vancouver. Unfortunately, my flight was at 6 am so I had to be at the airport around 3am to check in and everything. I had two large suitcases- one was 53 pounds and one was 55 pounds. The woman at the counter told me that since my flights were international, it would cost me $150 per suitcase to take them if I didn't take things out. Pissed off that it was going to cost me $300 to take 8 extra pounds on a flight (even though the same weight was still going on the flight, just in a different bag!), I took a few things out of each suitcase and got them checked in. That lovely woman didn't take my luggage from me- you have to take it over to the x-ray machines several yards away. So, after she tagged them, I took them and put everything back in them and checked them. Hmph!
I slept as much as I could during the 2 flights – I was exhausted. I got to Vancouver and got my room and everything was smooth sailing. I met Kelly Bolt, the woman I'm training with. Nice woman- talks down to me a bit. But….it's all good – she's teaching me and I have to take it for what it's worth. Lots of people are here that I know from other ships- including a good friend of Sherwin and me – Wielly. I really love this ship – it's HUGE compared to what I am used to. There are multiple lounges, night clubs, bars and other areas. Slowly but surely, I'm learning how to navigate myself around.
Today we are in Juneau- didn't get off. Kelly's parents are here, so I took her responsibilities for the day so she could spend time with them. Gave me a chance to get some rest anyways. Tomorrow is Skagway and I have to get off and run to the grocery store. Then go to the gym until time for work!
That's about it for now – I'm going to try and stay on top of the blog since I have no Sherwin to spend time with after work L We're both really sad at the moment and missing each other. But, everything happens for a reason and we shall see if I can get on that ship. I keep begging my boss and hopefully she'll get me on there right after this ship! I get off of the Zuiderdam on August 8th and Sherwin's 30th birthday is August 15th. I really really want to be there to have a party for him and make it special. Knowing him, he won't tell anyone it's even his birthday. I just hope I can do it!
